Two inmates attacked the officer inside the Westchester County Jail at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Friday night in what has been described as an “unprovoked attack.” The officer was hospitalized with injuries and has since been released.

The incident remains under investigation. The inmates are now facing additional charges.

“One of our brave County Corrections Officers was attacked last evening and is being treated today in the hospital,” County Executive George Latimer posted on Twitter following the attack. “Our thoughts are with him and his family for full recuperation. He and his brother and sister officers are always in our prayers. We appreciate their service.”

The inmates are facing charges of assault and robbery.

"We will be investigating what led to this incident and will work with the District Attorney and County Police to ensure that these two assailants are prosecuted to the fullest extent," Westchester County Executive George Latimer said in a statement.
